Food Safety is non-negotiable – Industry must take responsibility to provide safe food for its consumers.

  • CMA members must adopt a rigorous code of conduct which is signed by every member joining CMA.
  • CMA members are vetted prior to joining and audited on a regular basis by our team of technical experts
  • All mills have Internal quality systems to test maize received and processed at their mills daily.
  • CMA works with a team of food safety technical experts such as Technoserve, APTECA (Aflatoxin Proficiency Testing for East and Central Africa), Beca ILRI Hub, IFPRI, University of Nairobi to ensure compliance

What does Self-Regulation Entail?

  • CMA members must invest heavily in equipment for sampling and testing for their laboratories and building the capacity of their personnel.
  • Credible Data Collection –CMA has embarked on a monthly data collection activity, where members share their aflatoxin contamination results.
  • CMA has embarked on capacity building for its members in terms of food safety on par with globally accepted Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Close to 40 members of the CMA have undergone HACCP Training with the Kenya Bureau of Standards.
  • Close to 52 members will be trained by the African Milling School on Supply Chain Systems and Food Processing as well as reduction of food waste and loss.
