Who We Are

About

We are RELIABLE

The Cereal Millers Association (CMA) is an association that represents the grain milling industry in Kenya comprising of wheat, maize, rice, pulses and other cereals, aggregators, traders, and importers. It was originally established at the Wheat Millers Association in the year 2000, but officially registered in 2007 as the Cereal Millers Association.
The CMA was formed with the objective of dealing with policy issues in relation to the Government. Of particular importance then was to lobby against high wheat import duties, address problems faced with cyclical maize shortages and to lobby for a liberalized maize and wheat market. Today we place more emphasis on the provision of safe and affordable food for our consumers.
Our membership comprises of about 50 plus grain milling companies and traders. CMA represents about 40% of total grain milling capacity for maize in Kenya and over 85% of the wheat milling capacity. Our members operate mills across the country, with a reach of over 10 million consumers of maize flour and over 35 million consumers of wheat flour.

Food Safety at the Cereal Millers Association is non-negotiable.

The CMA ensures that its members can provide consumers with grain products at an affordable price, with utmost efficiency and in a most transparent manner so that every household in the country can access safe, affordable and enough food always.

In 2010, the CMA took a bold step to self-regulate in the fight against aflatoxins with the help of the BECA hub at ILRI and University of Nairobi. It was also critical for CMA to self-regulate to ensure that all members were fortifying their products to increase the supply of nutritious food. CMA become the first Association in East & Central Africa to self-regulate.
